How to Navigate the Journeyperson Application for Estheticians in Saskatchewan

Are you nervous about applying for the journeyperson program in Saskatchewan? Don’t be.  I know all the forms and details can be confusing so I have tried to lay it all out here in plain English. It is important to read each form properly and if you have questions call  1-877-363-0536.

How to know if you are qualified to proceed with exams:

Tradesperson Requirements: 3 years/5400 hours

Technical  diploma or certificate

Step 1: Assessment Application Form

1: Trade qualifier assessment: Form 7

 Read Information form for Hairstylist, Esthetician-Nail Technician, and Esthetician-Skin Care Technician Trades

2: Trade school diploma-Any questions regarding partial technical training or technical training obtained before January 2009 must be reviewed on an individual basis. If there are any questions regarding minimum requirements please contact your local SATCC office for assistance or 1-877-363-0536.

3: Form 6a Esthetician – Nail Technician, Esthetician – Skin Care Technician

4: CONSENT TO RELEASE PERSONAL INFORMATION

Self-employed applicants:

  • Business License
  • Form 6A – signed by a Commissioner for Oaths

Other Evidence: 

  • International credential
  • International transcript
  • Prior learning transcript
  • Employer letters

5: Fees to be paid are: $150 for domestic residents $380 for international

An approval letter will be mailed to you within two weeks of receipt of this application. A final notice detailing time and place will be mailed approximately two weeks before the scheduled written examination date.

Step 2: Review the Results Letter

  • Approved – apply for exam.
  • Additional information is required – the letter will ask for additional information to complete the assessment of the application.
  • Not eligible – the letter will explain why your application is not eligible to challenge the trade qualifier exam.

Step 3: Written Exam Application

3: Fee to be submitted: $100

After completing step 3 you will receive a letter notifying you if you pass or fail:

Candidates require a pass mark of 70% in the written examination before being eligible to apply for the practical examination.

 


Step 4: Practical Exam Application

2. Fee to be submitted: $160

Candidates applying for practical examinations will be placed on a wait list. Once the minimum numbers of candidates have applied, an examination date will be scheduled. A final notice detailing time and place will be mailed approximately one month prior to the scheduled examination.

Fill out and review practical exam info package and bring it to the exam. You follow these sheets EXACTLY during the practical exam and will be able to have them out in front of you the whole time. Read it carefully.

Absolutely no cell phones, communication devices or PDAs are allowed in the examination facility. You will be required to leave immediately if any of these items are found on you.

Minimum module training and/or certificate training must include these topics in any combination: Sanitation/Disinfection, Manicure, Pedicure, Artificial nail (gel); and either powder-liquid system (acrylic) or one other artificial nail application.

  • Common Occupational Skills: maintains tools and equipment; cleans, sanitizes and disinfects; performs routine tasks; consults with the client. 35%
  • Nail Care: assesses hand, foot and nail health; manicures; pedicures; specialized services; finishes nails. 31%
  • Enhancing Nails: performs enhancement services; performs decorative nail services. 34%
  • Manicure 75 minutes
  • Pedicure 90 minutes
  • UV/LED Gel Nail Tips (one hand) 90 minutes
  • Powder / Liquid Forms (low or odorless, one hand) 90 minutes
  • Professional Attention to duties Throughout

  • Common Occupational Skills: maintains tools and equipment; cleans, sanitizes and disinfects; performs routine tasks; consults with the client. 32% Skin Care: examines skin; conditions skin; performs facial; removes hair; makeup and enhancement applications. 32% Nail Care: assesses hand, foot and nail health; manicures; pedicures; specialized services; finishes nails. 36%
  • Skin Care: examines skin; conditions skin; performs facial; removes hair; makeup and enhancement applications. 32% Nail Care: assesses hand, foot and nail health; manicures; pedicures; specialized services; finishes nails. 36%

  • Facial 60 minutes
  • Lash Tint 45 minutes
