Small Things that Keep Your Clients Coming Back

Clients will always come back to the same massage therapist, hairdresser, or esthetician, even if he or she is not the best at what they do. Service professionals can develop a strong, natural conversational bond with the client and do little things that keep the client coming back. For some, this comes naturally. For others, not so much.

Conversation Skills

Conversation is the most powerful tool in many wellness and beauty businesses. This is perhaps the most crucial way to keep your clients coming back. To build a bond with your client, start by asking them how they are doing and how they have been since the last visit.

Mention something you guys had discussed before or if the client had a particular event going. Keep notes on events and conversations in their client cards! It will make your client feel like they are the most important person to have walked into your salon or boutique that day.

Discuss light matters and focus on the positive events in the news—no politics or controversial topics. Even as you ask your clients how they’re doing, be sure not to go too deep into their personal life. Again, engage in positive conversations that will make the client feel lively and enjoy their stay in your shop.

Use the client’s name. It sounds silly, but people feel special when you use their first name in a conversation. This will make a client feel recognized and important to you.

Aside from the conversation aspect, the little things in the form of services, not necessarily the treatment process, will make a client return to your salon/spa.

Keep your clients coming back with these other tips.

Offer Free phone charging. Many clients would appreciate it if you offered them free phone charging, a service that won’t cost you a lot of money but will save them the angst of their phone going dead at some crucial moment. Check out this multi-cord charging cable.

•Keeping a stash of umbrellas at the reception that you’ll offer your clients when it’s raining, and theirs is in the car, will impress many of them. I found a 6 pack Here.

•Offer your clients a free make-up touch-up. Complete the transformation and make the client feel good. Add a little make-up when you are finished with their hair or massage. If you don’t have time, set up a little station and let her do it herself.

•Always offer free coffee, tea, or water. Have disposable cups available, as some clients will want to take their coffee back to work. But don’t stop there. Why not have a bowl of granola bars or snacks available too? Clients often come straight from work or on their lunch break, which will quickly cure hunger grumps

•Warm neck wraps can provide comfort during cold seasons. This is one of my all-time favourites!

•A loyalty program is a really easy and important way to keep your clients returning.  We have a really popular blog post. You get a more in-depth explanation about that in our blog post “Loyalty programs for spas.”

•Offer Free wifi

In this day and age, everyone is carrying a phone. And everyone appreciates free wifi. Get one of these cute signs to share your wifi password.

Many entrepreneurs in the beauty and fashion industry often think that retaining clients require a lot of money. But as you’ve seen in this article, most of the little things that will make clients come back for your services are free or cost very little.
